I hear often that “you cannot stop progress”, however that does not have to translate into covering our hills with housing. Progress can also be expanding quality of life in the community through small business and other services with work opportunities, as well as focusing on smaller developments that introduce truly affordable housing that fits within designated zoning. It can be to support what citizens have requested in maintaining open spaces and minimizing new fees in consideration of those on fixed incomes. My focus would be to maintain District 1 community character, advocate for communities throughout the county, retain natural resources, and reduce government costs.
Roads are something I have heard of (and experienced) as a big concern. I would champion the maintenance of our roads with El Dorado County Department of Transportation and determine if we can obtain a more consistent agreement on maintenance and repairs.
I also want to engage in depth with El Dorado Irrigation District in relation to water, understanding what preparations are underway to leverage this resource across the county even during low precipitation years, and how they evaluate water confirmation for expanding communities.
Prioritize small business growth in our community and evaluate ways to reduce cost for individuals to launch. I would love to see interest to open business within El Dorado Hills that leverage the farming and agriculture resources of our larger county, or neighboring rural counties, as well as goods from local artists.
Promote open, active and consistent engagement with schools and their boards. Connect with superintendent to understand resource requirements, communications and engagement in county planning.
It would be wonderful to see if community members have skills they would like to share for training at all age levels, and evaluate the optimal forum to accomplish that. I have great interest in seeing if we could attract different forms of trade schools into our area for more skills training opportunities.
Encourage people to connect in groups to create a lively and vital community, then leverage when needed for a combined voice. This will help us to grow together, realize we are not alone, and leverage each other’s resources in areas of interest to us.
I am a strong supporter of people-centric leadership. We have a voter approved general plan that should be a factor in decision making. I favor collaboration efforts with the people of this county to propose measures that will maintain their desires for culture and community.
I stand behind our law enforcement, fire department, active duty military and veterans, as well as all personnel that support their efforts.
My belief is that people are better equipped to champion causes important to them, whether it is non or for profit organization. Getting people together to fund or volunteer in their areas of concern or passion is optimal, rather than having government implement something paid by everyone with ever-expanding cost requirements.
The current model for government should not be as complex as it is now, which makes it difficult for people to really know what is going on. My intent is to truly be a representative for this district, and simplify the process so it is accessible to everyone. Lets get back to government “by the people, for the people”.
